This is the best record of the mid-nineties! DARK TRANQUILLITY celebrated a blend between the force of the 80ies Speed Metal combined with the best guitarwork I ever witnessed and fantastic melodic black metal vocals! "The Gallery" is melodic-black-art-metal, same style as for example IN FLAMES or AT THE GATES but on a much higher level! For this kind of music it's simply the best record that ever has been and ever will be, there comes nothing before this 2nd LP of Swedens finest! Tracks as the highspeed assault >The dividing Line<, the megamelodic and deep hypnotic >Lethe< or the unbelievable >...of Melancholy burning< with it's great female vocals are the monoliths of Melodic Black/Death that reach to the sky and beyond... Highly recommend also for 80ies maniacs believe me! "The Gallery" is better than all other comparable great works as "Gothic", "Godless beauty", "Purgatory Afterglow", "Slaughter of the Soul" or "Jester Race"!!!
The debut of DARK TRANQUILLITY bears the title "Skydancer" and is also a total killer! A bit rougher and some even faster stuff. But with >Through ebony Archways<, >Shadow Duet< and >A bolt of blazing Gold< there are some classics on this album that any fan of real metal should add to his collection! The EPs >Of Chaos and Eternal Night< (title-track is one of D.T. best songs ever!!!) plus >Enter suicidal Angels< and "The Minds I", the follow-up to "The Gallery", are also very good and a must to have. Everything past "The Minds I" is sadly not very interesting anymore so I will not lift the veil on these works...
