SAVAGE GRACE, a band name seemingly containing
a disaccord. When you listen to "MASTER OF DISGUISE" you'll see
that it's perfectly descriptive. The sheer power of songs like >Bound
to be Free< or >Sins of the Damned< will force the bravest warrior
to fall on his knees and leave only ashes to cover the bones of the false
ones. It's SAVAGE! But this piece of metal is not simply telling of bloodshed,
it's a symbol of valor or you could also think of GRACE! Responsible for
this amazing unification mainly is Christian Logue, who is a real metal
god without any doubt. Giving to the unworthy world blows of steel like
>Fear my Way< with its unbelievable elevation and lyrical poetry or
>Into the Fire<. "...too many battles I've seen, my hell never
ending...', this is directed to the true hearts of all who suffered to much
and sometimes think of giving up the fight. Remember "we choose our
own fate" and "dare to go INTO THE FIRE". No flame can be
as hot as the burning hate inside your chest! But king Logue has to share
his throne on "MASTER OF DISGUISE" with the vocalist Mike Smith,
whose voice is probably one of the most impressive ones in the metal circus.
Rough, brutal, savage on the one hand and on the other majestic and soaring
into heaven. Christian Logue was always a follower of absolutism, so Mike
Smith had to go too and Logue himself finally endeavored his voice on the
following output "AFTER THE FALL FROM GRACE". Of course he never
reached the level of a Mr. Smith as a singer, but that's another tale...
To be precise I have to let you know that not every track arised from the
mind of Logue. Brian East (Bass), delivers >Sons of Inquinity< on
a similiar high level as the band leader himself. A real great pounding
song! "Die at my hands, vengeful with hate", I love screaming
this part! Interesting in this context is that East absolutely outranges
Logue with the power hymn >Age of Innocence< on the next album. Probably
you could write a doctorial thesis about "MASTER OF DISGUISE",
but it's much more exciting to discover this piece of true 80s steel yourself.
Let me finally say that it's one of my favorite albums and qualitatively
high above any release these days. Ignoring this masterpiece would mean
to miss one of the brighest shining stars in the metal universe. Reviewed by Manuel Kempf |
