Although the norwegian Metal Warriors released only one vinyl-album, the band
has a legendary status in underground and still a great following. And for a
very good reason: Their "1487" entitled record, private pressing from
1990, is forever among the alltime-classics of European Power Metal!! Tracks
as >By this Axe I rule<, >Kill all in Sight< or the Speed-Kut >Transylvania<
are nothing but pure Power Metal Hymns that will crush your skull !! This record
is a MUST for anyone reading this !! So if you didn't know about this exciting
release till now, put it on your searchlist and ... happy hunting. It's not
easy to get anymore, but worth all effords, guaranteed!!
And now take good care: What only a few now: WITCHHAMMER
recorded another album in 1991, only one year after "1487"!!! And
it's available on CD now!!! No crappy CD-R, but a REAL CD, color cover, 9 tracks,
perfectly in the vain of the legendary "1487"-monster!! And the best:
You can order this CD thru FORGOTTEN STEEL, just visit our shop, so what you
are waiting for??? If WITCHHAMMER sell enough copies,
maybe they will decide to awaken the band anew??? The band is not dead...only
sleeping!! You know what you have to do now!! But first read what FINN, the
bass-player of WITCHHAMMER,
told us about the history and present of the band:
1)
Which year you got infected with the METAL-virus and what was the release?
FINN:
This one`s easy. My cousin, Kjell Olaf had bought himself an album he played
it for me and said : This is Hard Rock! The year was 1977 and the album was
Love Gun by Kiss. We where 11 years old.
2)
With what age did you start singing/playing an instrument and what was the reason
to do so?
FINN: I tried to learn playing the guitar when I was 11, took a class
but i didnt find it very interesing. When I was 13 I was home from school sick,
I sent my mother to the library to lend a guitar book and tried again, this
time it worked much better. The reason I was bored and the guitar just hung on
the wall over my bed :)
My friend Peder and myself played guitars in a band called LOADER. Peder left
for WITCHHAMMER and after a while they where about to have their first gig this
was october 1986. At that time the singer Per Ståle played bass, they wanted
to free him from the bass so he could consentrate on singing. Peder asked the
LOADER boys if they could borrow me to play the bass on the gig, they agreed.
So there I was one week before the gig holding a bass for the first time, I
liked playing bass so I (was) never returned to LOADER.
3)
What are your five alltime-favorite records? FINN: In no particular order : Roger Waters - Amused to death Sepultura - Roots Megadeth - Peace sells, but who's buying Slayer - Reign In Blood Any album by Kate Bush Metallica - Ride the lightning Ozzy - Bark at the moon Manowar - Battle hymns Red Hot Chilipeppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik Kiss - love gun wooops got carried away there :) |
Morten whilst Live-Battle |
4)
Tell us the three last records/CDs you bought, that really thrilled you!
FINN:
Marilyn Manson - mechanical animals
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Red Hot Chilipeppers - Californication
5) Please give
us a discography of all bands you played with and all releases and about how
many copies each title were sold!
FINN: LOADER released
one demo I dont know if it sold any at all. WITCHHAMMER released a couple of
demotapes :
"Into the halls of justice"
"Let justice be done"
We also released a vinyl album in 1990 "1487" we printed 1135 copies of it gave
away maybe 10, kept one each and sold the rest. :)
So if have a 1487 on vinyl be careful with it.
And of course "THE
LOST TAPES" on cd recorded in 1991 and released 2000. Sales? Havent
got a clue :)
(FORGOTTEN STEEL distributes this legendary must-to-have
CD, visit the shop to learn more!!)
6)
Looking back: Which of your releases do you like the most and why?
7)
And which the least/why?
FINN: I like them all ,they reflect WITCHHAMMER at that point in
time.
8) Did your band
(any of your bans) record songs that have never been released? Please give us
the song-titles and a short description!
FINN: There is some WITCHHAMMER songs recorded in 1993-95. Morten
had left the band I played guitar and Renato joined to play bass. WITCHHAMMER
got heavier and more experimental. If enough people want to I will put som of
it out on our website!!
www.witchhammer.com
Some songtitles: "The silence", "Cold Turkey", "Like father". Some of its fast
and some of its slow.
9) What was the
highlight of your carreer?
FINN: The
first time I held 1487 in my hands.
10) Tell us a
funny story around your band from the past!
FINN: We used to rehearse
every day. One of the things that happens when a rehearsal lasts for 5 hours
is that you get very sweaty especially if you are the drummer. In the weekends
when we where going to partys after rehearsal this was a problem for him. He
solved it by rehearsing nude :)
