Radegast |
CITRON's masterpiece "Radegast"
is fantasy-inspired epic Power Metal with great refrains and melodies, the
best tracks are the atmospheric >Radegast<, the epic blind guardianish
>Let's keep on< or the furious >Hunting mean dwarfs<. All of
these deserve to be called classics! Those of you who may think metal from
east-europe is not interesting will change their mind after hearing this
record, promised! The "Radegast" vinyl edition has a loveless
outfit, the cover looks shitty, lyrics or an innersleeve are not included.
This surely is to blame on the label, with a cover coming up to the enormous
level of the music CITRON would have been more successful by far and you
would have heard earlier about this masterpiece not only years to late through
FORGOTTEN STEEL. But all will be well! Just catch the album, it is not too
difficult to find here in germany. Maybe you will be lucky in some Secondhand
Shop were you will have to pay only very few bucks because of the unspectacular
optic the record is not cared about by people who do not know what magic
lurks behind the veil of grey (cover). There exists also an original version
of "Radegast" with czech lyrics, released already in 1987 on Supraphon
label. The cover of the original pressing is slightly different (but not
better) and the sound is way poorer. Also some songs are played slower,
the total playing time on the english version is 36:26 min., the original
plays about 4 minutes longer with the same songs! The czech version is hard
to find and also highly recommend, but the english one is better. Best would
be you buy both records, interesting to compare! CITRON released their debut record already in 1981 ("Tropic of Cancer"), in 1986 "Full of Energy" came out in an english and a czech version and in 1987 "Vypust'te Psy!" was unleashed. Sadly none of the other records was even half as good as "Radegast", the last sign of life was a terrible Heavy Rock CD in 1992 called "Sexy Bomby" (the title alone makes me shiver, brrrrr). RIP, CITRON... |
