SAMAIN was founded in 1982 in Hagen/Iserlohn. A fairly unknow outfit from germany (not netherlands - as stated in some places...) that released their only LP back in 1984 on Roadrunner Records in an edition of about 50.000 pcs. 50 thousand is really much for a debut-record, and it's also the reason why "Vibrations of Doom" is not too difficult to get today, so if you're lucky you still might find it in some second hand shop for a few bucks. A lyric-sheet is sadly not included, the songtitles seem very interesting (>The Metal breaks my Senses<). Because of the large pressing in collectors circles nobody seems to care for SAMAIN (needless to say that these warriors of steel dare not be confound with that horrible Glenn Danzig Band "Samhain"). But a little more attention would be advantageous: SAMAIN played pounding midtempo metal, typical for the eighties. Nice guitarsolos and an average moulded voice make this record not a must to have, but it's all in all surely an enrichment for your collection! The cover artwork looks very good and tracks as >Thor< with it's galloping riffs and the haunting melodies are worth hearing in every way!
Before the band disbanded in 1986, a second album was planned to be recorded in Canada, but only the basics were finished and then the "Vibrations of Doom" seem to have caused SAMAIN to crumble and split. Death of another promising band... *sigh*
