Fight for your Life |
The winged dragon (WYVERN) was born in
Parma back in 1985. 2 Demotapes were released in the first years, then followed
the vinyl-debut "The red Flame of Pain". Of course it is rare,
but is it good? Yes, no question. It has a below average production, also
the lyrics are not perfect ("Looking for the sky - the Wyvern pass
on fly..."). But what counts most is the music, and that kills!
Melodic Speed tracks like >Wyvern<, >Behind Bars< or >Fight
for your Life< are better than 95% of all that boring bombast-metal-trash
(not thrash!) the italians bring on today. The keyboards play a very little
role, the guitars are dominant in WYVERN's sound as it should be. The tracks
on Side "B" I do not like as much as the ones stated above, but
who cares. I would not say that "The red Flame of Pain" is an
absolute classic, but all in all it is a very good album, interesting not
only for collectors. In 1994 a new and very good demo came out ("Season of Power"), 1 track from this demo (>Ice Guardian<) was released on a compilation CD by "Underground Symphony". At the time the band is plannig to release a new record via "U.S." and rerelease "The red Flame of Pain" on CD. Let's see what happens... The guys are in every way 100% true metal and I wish them all the best from the bottom of my heart! They deserve more attention than RHAPSODY, SHADOWS OF STEEL, SKYLARK so keep your eyes open for the real WYVERN (not that swedish guys that use the same name - what a shame) |
