City ad Mortis |
Great Speed Metal Band from
Beverwijk/Holland! Their first release was the demo-tape "Tales of
the Unexpected" in 1985. Two years later "City ad Mortis"
was unleashed by the major-label CBS. It was limited to 3.000 copies that
disappeared very quickly. There never was much trouble about DEFENDER, not
many seem to have noticed that "City..." was a fantastic Speed
Metal album with unbelievable guitars and great melodic vocals, strongly
reminding on US Bands such as SAVAGE GRACE and nearly as good! Some years
after the release the rumors about this great record spread within the collectors-szene,
it appeared on many wants-lists but was nearly impossible to get. That lead
to the high price that surely would be demanded if the album comes up anywhere
today. There has not been any CD-release, not even a bootleg. So if you
want to add this amazing piece of melodic Speed to your collection you must
be ready to spend some bucks and prepare for a long search... In 1989, two years after the debut-12" a promo-CD was released with the title "Journey to the unexpected". It was a promo-only and is simply impossible to get. The reaction of the labels was: none (deaf bastards)! So DEFENDER split and we have to mourn another great band. But for all who can not find the original DEFENDER releases there is no need to cry: DEFENDER released "City ad Mortis" EP, "Journey to the unexpected" PromoCD and more as a compilation CD with the name "Remaining Tales" in late 2000/early 2001 (Thanx!). Harm Noort is now playing old school Thrash Metal with GODDESS OF DESIRE under the name of Count August and still holds high the flag of true metal! Hail! |
